Hikezilla Terms of Use
Last updated: 25 February 2026
1. Who we are and these Terms
Hikezilla is a registered Australian business name, ABN 37 383 210 662 ("Hikezilla", "we", "us"). Contact: hello@hikezilla.com. Hikezilla operates hikezilla.com and associated community services.
These Terms govern access to and use of Hikezilla. Additional rules apply to particular activities, including the Event Participation & Safety Terms, Trail Points & Rewards Rules, Gear Library Borrowing Agreement, Community Guidelines, and our Privacy Policy. Where an activity requires separate acceptance, its specific terms apply to that activity to the extent consistent with mandatory law.
By registering or otherwise expressly accepting these Terms, you agree to them. Browsing publicly available pages does not by itself establish that you have accepted every activity-specific agreement.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to create a Hikezilla account, and you confirm this when you sign up. You must provide accurate account information, protect access credentials and notify us of suspected misuse. You are responsible for activity under your account to the extent permitted by law. Accounts are personal and may not be sold or transferred without our approval.
Attendance by a minor at an outdoor event is governed separately by the Event Participation & Safety Terms; permission to attend does not automatically confer permission to create an account.
We may restrict accounts where reasonably necessary for security, safety, fraud prevention, serious misconduct or legal compliance, with appropriate notice and review where practicable.
3. What Hikezilla offers
Hikezilla includes community posts, forums, stories, trail notes and GPX resources; events and RSVPs; challenges, achievements and patches; Trail Points, rewards and perks; volunteer logs; Explore and saved places; gear lending; Insights, datasets and dashboards; Rex AI; an opt-in professional Network; projects; and outdoor job listings. Some services are offered by independent members or third parties, not Hikezilla. Features may evolve or be withdrawn with reasonable notice where practicable, without affecting non-excludable rights or existing commitments.
Hikezilla currently offers free community membership and free Hikezilla-organised walks. Future optional paid services, if introduced, will have their own clear pricing and terms.
4. Events and outdoor risk
Bushwalking, trail running, climbing, off-track travel, alpine travel and other outdoor activities involve inherent and sometimes serious risks, including injury or death. Routes, GPX files, reports and AI responses are informational, may be incomplete or outdated, and are not a substitute for current official alerts, appropriate maps, training, equipment or judgement.
Hikezilla-organised events, member-organised events and externally listed events have different organisers and responsibilities. Check the event listing and applicable Event Participation & Safety Terms before attending. No statement in these Terms removes a duty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
5. Community conduct and moderation
Follow our Community Guidelines. Do not harass, threaten, impersonate, defraud or unlawfully discriminate against others; post unlawful, infringing or dangerous material; reveal another person's private information without authority; or misuse messaging, the Network, points or event features. We may review reports, remove content, restrict features or suspend accounts where reasonably necessary. We do not promise to pre-screen every submission. Report urgent real-world threats to emergency services; use Hikezilla's reporting tools for platform issues.
6. Your content and our limited licence
You retain ownership of original stories, photographs, route notes, project submissions and other content you contribute. You confirm you have the necessary rights and permissions to submit them, including permission from people whose personal information or images you publish where required.
You grant Hikezilla a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, format, display and make your content available for operating the Hikezilla services in accordance with your chosen visibility settings. For content you choose to publish publicly, this includes reasonable promotion of that published content on Hikezilla-owned social media and communications, such as article excerpts, cover images and links, with creator credit and an article link where practicable. We may crop or resize images for presentation without materially misrepresenting them. This licence does not authorise us to sell your standalone work, sublicense it for unrelated third-party advertising, or use private drafts in promotions without separate permission.
The licence ends when the relevant content is deleted or made private, except to the extent needed for lawful retention, technical backups, content already shared or cached by third parties, or other rights and obligations that survive deletion. We will stop new promotional uses of removed content within a reasonable time after receiving a valid request, subject to practical limits for previously distributed material. Attribution does not replace any third-party copyright permission.
We may remove material reasonably believed to violate rights or these Terms. Send copyright concerns to hello@hikezilla.com with the work, location of the disputed content, basis of your claim and contact information.
7. Community information, Insights, projects and jobs
Member advice, routes, datasets, dashboards, job listings and third-party projects may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or subject to third-party licences. Check original sources and any dataset/code licence before reusing materials. A project marked open source is governed by its actual published licence, not merely its appearance in a directory. Jobs and professional introductions are not employment offers or guarantees; use independent judgement when contacting third parties.
8. Rex AI
Rex is an AI assistant and may make mistakes. Do not rely on Rex as the sole basis for emergency, medical, weather, navigation or high-risk outdoor decisions. Depending on the feature, prompts and relevant account context may be transmitted to external AI providers as described in our Privacy Policy. Do not submit confidential third-party information unless authorised. Rex does not replace official emergency services or professional advice.
9. Third-party integrations
Optional integrations such as Strava, Google sign-in, maps and embedded third-party content are subject to those providers' terms and privacy practices. You must not connect an account you are not authorised to use. Disconnecting an integration may stop future collection but may not automatically delete previously imported information; see the Privacy Policy and available deletion options.
10. Points, rewards, borrowing and promotions
Trail Points are governed by the separate Trail Points & Rewards Rules; they are not cash. Gear borrowing is subject to the Gear Library Borrowing Agreement and an individual approval process. Any giveaway or competition is governed by its specific published conditions and applicable law. We do not guarantee continued availability of particular rewards, gear or third-party benefits.
11. Intellectual property and site access
Except for member and third-party content, Hikezilla's site branding, software and original materials are owned by or licensed to Hikezilla. You may use the service for lawful personal and community purposes; do not circumvent access controls, scrape private data, interfere with systems or falsely imply endorsement.
12. Privacy and account closure
Our Privacy Policy explains information handling, including profile visibility, Strava, Rex and analytics. You may request access, correction or account deletion at hello@hikezilla.com. Closure may affect points, redemptions, published contributions and records we must reasonably retain; we will explain the effect of a request before processing where practicable.
13. Service availability and consumer rights
We aim to keep Hikezilla reliable but cannot promise uninterrupted availability or that every third-party listing, route or community submission is accurate. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights, remedies, guarantees or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law where applicable. Any limitation of liability applies only to the extent permitted by law and must be assessed in light of the particular service and circumstances.
14. Changes and disputes
We may update these Terms for legal, safety, security or product reasons. We will publish an updated date and give reasonable advance notice of material changes where practicable. Changes will not retrospectively remove accrued statutory rights. Contact hello@hikezilla.com first with concerns; we will consider complaints fairly. Nothing prevents you exercising legal rights or approaching a regulator or court.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, subject to mandatory laws that apply to you. The courts with jurisdiction in New South Wales may hear disputes, without excluding non-excludable consumer rights to bring proceedings elsewhere.
