Hikezilla Event Participation & Safety Terms
Last updated: 25 February 2026
1. Scope and event types
These terms supplement Hikezilla's Terms of Use for outdoor event participation. Each event must identify whether it is Hikezilla-organised, independently member-organised, or an external third-party listing. The event listing must identify the actual organiser and any additional rules. A listing or RSVP facility alone does not necessarily mean Hikezilla organises or supervises the activity.
2. Nature of outdoor activities and risks
Outdoor activities, including hiking, bushwalking, off-track navigation, trail running, camping, canyoning, scrambling and alpine activities, can involve serious injury, permanent disability or death. Risks can include steep and exposed terrain, falls, rockfall, cliffs, water crossings, drowning, weather changes, lightning, heat/cold exposure, dehydration, bushfire, wildlife, equipment failure, navigation errors, delayed rescue and limited communications. Conditions and risks may change after an event is posted.
3. Participant responsibilities
Before registering, read the event description, grade, distance, ascent, route, equipment list, expected conditions and organiser instructions. Choose events appropriate to your fitness, skills, experience and medical circumstances; carry required equipment and sufficient food/water; disclose to the organiser information reasonably necessary for immediate event safety through a suitably private channel; follow lawful and reasonable safety directions; and tell the organiser promptly if you cannot attend or must leave early. Do not rely solely on a GPX track, a social post or Rex AI for navigation or safety.
An organiser may decline participation or change/cancel an activity where reasonably necessary for safety, suitability, capacity or conditions. This is not a guarantee that an event will be risk-free.
4. Children and guardians
A person under 18 may attend only with their parent or legal guardian physically accompanying them throughout the activity, unless a separate approved minor-participation arrangement is introduced. The guardian must assess suitability, supervise the minor and provide any necessary permission. Technical or higher-risk events may have stricter age/experience requirements. A parent or guardian attends under their own Hikezilla account and is responsible for the minor they bring; no separate account is needed for the minor.
5. Organiser categories
For Hikezilla-organised events, Hikezilla will describe the intended route and requirements and take reasonable steps appropriate to its role. Independent member organisers are responsible for their own event planning, information and conduct, subject to platform rules and applicable law. External organisers may have separate terms and insurance arrangements; verify them directly. Hikezilla does not promise that all independently listed activities are inspected or supervised by Hikezilla.
6. Emergencies and information
In an emergency, participants and organisers may contact emergency services. Emergency response, transport and associated costs depend on the circumstances and applicable law; these terms do not impose blanket liability for all rescue costs.
7. Photography and content
Event photographs may include other participants. Ask permission before publicly identifying people, particularly minors. Organisers should respect reasonable requests not to publish an identifiable image. Hikezilla's Privacy Policy applies to any personal information collected for the event.
8. Cancellations, route changes and conduct
Weather, closures, capacity and safety may require changes or cancellation. RSVP does not guarantee an event will proceed. Follow park closures, land access rules, cultural and environmental protections, and the Community Guidelines. Unsafe, unlawful or harassing behaviour may result in removal from an event where lawful and reasonable.
9. Rights and liability
Nothing in this document excludes non-excludable statutory rights or duties, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Hikezilla does not provide supervision, guided instruction or insurance cover for member-organised or external events. Choosing to take part in an outdoor activity is a personal decision; assess the risks for yourself before attending.
10. Acceptance and contact
When you RSVP to an event, you accept these terms for that event. For questions, contact hello@hikezilla.com. Hikezilla, ABN 37 383 210 662.
