The loop

How points flow

One simple loop: explore, contribute, earn, repeat.

  1. Step 1

    Go on an adventure

Hike, run, climb, camp, explore a national park, or take on something completely ridiculous.

  2. Step 2

    Earn points

Complete challenge objectives or contribute to the Hikezilla community. Bigger commitments and harder objectives can earn more.

  3. Step 3

    Unlock achievements

Your adventures can build toward patches and achievements — from small milestones to seriously difficult, long-term accomplishments.

  4. Step 4

    Redeem rewards

Spend your available points on patches, gear, partner perks, experiences, gift cards and other rewards in the store.

However you earn them, they're all Trail Points.

Why this exists

Good people deserve good rewards.

You don't need a podium, a following or a sponsorship to matter here.

Hikezilla rewards people who explore, volunteer, share what they know, build useful things and help the outdoor community.

Sometimes that's a huge mountain objective. Sometimes it's spending Saturday morning handing out cups at a trail race.

Both count.

Not just miles and metres

Volunteer Log

It doesn't have to be for Hikezilla.

Log genuine volunteering from your profile — trail races, parkrun, clean-ups, parks, conservation, outdoor events and community organisations. Past volunteering counts too, and volunteering achievements unlock as your history grows.

Hikezilla Strava ClubComing soon

Already getting outside? Good.

Join the Hikezilla Strava Club and eligible activity days will earn a few Trail Points too — awarded in a weekly batch, one rewarded day per calendar day, no double-dipping on duplicates.

We'll also run occasional club challenges — Monthly Vert, Distance Month, Weekend Mission and Community Goals — with points landing after each one finishes. Mostly about taking part, not topping a leaderboard.

Data nerds welcome

Spreadsheets count as outdoor gear now.

  • Publish an admin-approved Insights dashboard
  • Contribute or clean up a useful outdoor dataset
  • Build a visualisation people actually use
  • Take on a data bounty

Two kinds of projects

Hikezilla Projects

Meaningful approved contributions earn Trail Points through the project contribution rules.

Independent projects

Built something non-commercial for the outdoors? List it in the Outdoor Project Directory — verified creators can unlock achievements like Built Elsewhere. A listing on its own doesn't earn contribution points.

BountiesComing soon

We'll put Trail Points behind the problem.

Go a little further

Completion isn't always the end.

Some Hikezilla challenges have a single objective and stop there.

Others keep going.

Complete the trail. Then complete it in a day. Maybe take on the harder distance. Chase the next elevation tier. Finish every summit in the collection.

Optional objectives don't disappear just because you've completed the main challenge.

You decide where "done" is.

The patch wall

Achievements & patches

Some adventures deserve more than a number. Achievements recognise meaningful milestones across Hikezilla — from getting involved in the community to completing collections that could take years.

Some unlock digital badges. Some come with physical patches or special rewards. And the rarest ones? You'll have to earn those.

The good stuff

The rewards store

Points are earned, not bought. Spend them on outdoor gear, gift cards, subscriptions, books, outdoor experiences, partner rewards, Hikezilla patches and the occasional special something.

Some rewards will be easy to reach. Others are meant to take serious commitment.

Your balance

Earned forever. Spendable when you want.

Lifetime earned

A record of all the Trail Points you've earned across adventures, achievements and community contributions.

Available points

The points currently available for you to spend in the Rewards Store.

Redeeming a reward reduces your available points. It doesn't erase the adventures, achievements or historical points you've earned — those stay part of your Hikezilla story.

Your adventures still count

Already done it? It still counts.

Your adventures don't have to start when you join Hikezilla.

If you've already completed a challenge or objective, you can submit it retroactively. Upload the required proof — such as a GPX/FIT file, activity link, race result, photo, or other accepted evidence — and once verified, you'll earn the same points and progress as someone completing it today.

Your outdoor history is part of your Hikezilla story.

  1. Completed the AAWT in 2022?
  2. →Submit proof
  3. →Earn challenge points
  4. →Unlock eligible progress

There's no general time limit on retroactive claims. Specific seasonal or time-limited challenges may have their own rules.

Proof of adventure

How proof submission works

The harder the challenge, the stronger the proof we may ask for.

  • Depending on the objective, that might mean a GPX or FIT file, a Strava activity, event result, photo, external link, or another accepted form of verification.
  • Submissions that require review are checked before points are awarded.
  • Once approved, points, challenge progress and eligible achievement progress land on your profile.

We're here to celebrate adventures, not police them. Proof simply keeps challenges fair for everyone.

Common questions

The small print, the edge cases, the "wait, what about…" stuff.

Climb something. Volunteer. Build a map. Show up.

Trail Points aren't airline miles. They're Hikezilla's way of recognising people who make the outdoors better — however they do it.
