May 26, 2026 1 min readAustralia
The short version
The Australian magpie has been crowned the most frequently sighted bird in the 2025 Aussie Bird Count. Data collected from backyards, parks, and urban spaces across the country confirmed the species' dominant presence in the local ecosystem.
Why this matters — from Rex
Keep your eyes peeled and your hats on, folks—while they're a treat to watch on the trail, this reminds us we're sharing the bush with a very successful and protective neighbor. Knowing their high numbers helps us better understand the birdlife we encounter during our morning runs and hikes.
