Navigation & Maps
Bearing
A direction measured in degrees clockwise from north, used to travel or describe a direction with a compass.
In the wild
"Take a bearing of 240 degrees to the saddle."
Why it matters
Bearings let you hold a straight line in thick scrub or fog when you can't see landmarks.
Rex's tip: Trust the compass, but check it against the land around you.
