Yuraygir coastal walk
North Coast, NSW
65 km of NSW's longest undeveloped coastline, from Angourie Surfing Reserve to Red Rock through Yuraygir National Park.
About this place
The Yuraygir coastal walk is a signposted 65 km one-way Grade 4 route along beaches, headlands, heath and lakes between Angourie and Red Rock. NPWS recommends walking north to south with the sun at your back, camping at beach campgrounds, and splitting the journey over about four days — or sampling a day section such as Angourie to Brooms Head. Watch for coastal emus (fewer than 100 remain in the park), whales in season, and Yaegl interpretive signs. Rock platforms and waterway crossings need tide sense and self-sufficiency.
Access & getting there
Northern start from Yamba via Angourie. Other access at Wooli and Red Rock boat ramp. Book campgrounds along the way. High tide may force a sand diversion at Back Beach — look for the tall post.
Angourie Surfing Reserve, Poinsettia Cres / The Crescent, Angourie NSW 2464, Yuraygir National Park
Safety notes
Unpatrolled surf, river crossings and remote sections. Carry water, check tides, and tell someone your plan. Coastal emus are endangered — keep dogs out and give birds space.
Gear notes
Sun protection, extra water, tide tables, and overnight kit if walking through. Gaiters help in heath.
