Wategos Beach
Byron Bay, NSW
Byron's pocket beach under Cape Byron — a sheltered cove at the eastern end of the Walgun walking track, away from Main Beach.
About this place
Wategos Beach is the small sandy cove on the northern side of Cape Byron, reached via Marine Passage or as a side trip off the Walgun Cape Byron walking track (already listed). It is more sheltered than Main Beach, with a surf club, seasonal patrols and a grassy backdrop under the lighthouse. Come here when you want a swim after the lighthouse walk without returning to town. Parking is tight; walking or riding from Byron is saner in peak season. Dogs are not permitted on the beach.
Access & getting there
Limited parking at Wategos; fills early. Walk or cycle from Byron via the Cape Byron track. Seasonal lifeguards.
Marine Passage, Wategos Beach, Byron Bay NSW 2481
Safety notes
