Walls of China viewing platform
Mungo, NSW
Wheelchair-accessible boardwalk lookout over Mungo’s World Heritage lunette, the most iconic view in outback NSW.
About this place
NPWS rates this as one of the best views in World Heritage-listed Mungo National Park: a flat timber boardwalk from a gravel carpark to a platform overlooking the Walls of China lunette and the dry Lake Mungo bed. Independent visitors stay on the boardwalk; walking onto the lunette itself is by Aboriginal-guided tour only. It is the first stop on the Mungo Self-guided Drive, with picnic tables and an accessible non-flush toilet at the carpark.
Access & getting there
Unsealed dry-weather roads; 2WD OK when dry. From Mungo Visitor Centre follow the self-guided drive to the gravel carpark. Park entry $8 per vehicle per day (self-registration at the visitor centre). Roads close after rain. Limited Telstra coverage at the platform. No drones without Traditional Owner endorsement.
Walls of China precinct, Mungo Self-guided Drive, Mungo National Park NSW 2715
Safety notes
Extreme heat and frost. Stay on the boardwalk; the lunette is culturally sensitive and fragile. Carry extra water and tell someone your plans. Limited mobile coverage.
Gear notes
Sun hat, sunscreen, plenty of drinking water, warm layer in winter, camera.
