The Granites walking track
Corner Country, NSW
A 3 km loop over 450-million-year-old granite boulders from Dead Horse Gully, just north of Tibooburra.
About this place
The Granites walking track is a 3 km loop (1.5–2.5 hours, Grade 3) from Dead Horse Gully campground, about 1.5 km off the Silver City Highway north of Tibooburra. NPWS describes enormous granite boulders formed as magma pushed into cracks, with desert bloodwoods, Sturt’s desert peas after rain, and lizards on warm rock. A 4 km loop option exists. The 1 m-wide hard-packed track has short steep hills and creek crossings.
