The Coast Track
Royal National Park, NSW
Royal National Park's signature 27km coastal traverse — clifftops, beaches and whale country from Bundeena to Otford.
About this place
The Coast Track is the walk that defines Royal National Park: two days of sandstone escarpments, heath, swimming beaches and lookouts between Bundeena and Otford. Day one covers about 17km from Beachcomber Avenue to Garie Beach via Wedding Cake Rock, Marley and Wattamolla, with Eagle Rock near Curracurrang. Day two is 10km through Era, Burning Palms and Palm Jungle to Otford station. Do it in sections from Wattamolla or Garie if you do not want the full overnight. North Era campground is closed in 2026; check NPWS for current overnight options.
Access & getting there
Park entry fee for vehicles. Cronulla train then ferry to Bundeena, then 1.5km to the track head. Finish at Otford station (South Coast line). Carry all water. Check NPWS alerts before you go.
Beachcomber Avenue, Bundeena NSW 2230 (track head at the end of the street)
Safety notes
Unpatrolled beaches, cliff edges and limited water. Wedding Cake Rock is fenced and fragile — stay behind barriers. Check swell before any rock-platform side trips. Tell someone your plans.
Gear notes
Sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection, plenty of water and food. Overnight kit if walking the full track. Download NPWS maps before you lose reception.
