The Basin Campground

Northern Beaches, NSW

Sydney's only Ku-ring-gai Chase campground — a grassy waterfront camp on Pittwater reached by ferry, boat or a steep 2.8km walk.

About this place

The Basin is the only place you can camp in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, and it is booked out for a reason. A large grassy clearing overlooks Pittwater, with a sheltered beach, inland lagoon, wallabies on the lawn and room for up to 350 campers across 114 sites. There is no car access — Palm Beach Ferry, water taxi or private boat is the civilised way in. Walkers drop 2.8km from West Head Road on The Basin track, passing one of the park's best Aboriginal engraving sites. Book online. Day visitors pay a landing fee at the wharf.
