Tamarama Beach
Eastern Suburbs, NSW
Sydney's smallest and most deceptive surf beach — a narrow bay with serious rips, wedged between Bondi and Bronte.
About this place
Tamarama is tiny, photogenic and not a casual swim. The beach sits in a deep, east-facing bay where rips are almost always running; it has one of the highest rescue rates of any patrolled beach in NSW. Surf Life Saving has been here since 1906. Come for the coastal walk, Sculpture by the Sea, and watching committed surfers on a solid swell — swim only when it is patrolled, between the flags, and only if you are a strong swimmer.
Access & getting there
On the Bondi to Coogee walk. Limited parking on surrounding streets. Bus to Bondi or Bronte and walk.
Pacific Ave, Tamarama NSW 2026
Safety notes
One of NSW's most dangerous patrolled beaches. Powerful permanent rips. Swim only between the flags when lifeguards are on duty. Do not swim unpatrolled.
