Tallow Beach
Byron Bay, NSW
Byron's long south-facing surf beach running from The Pass toward Broken Head, with dune backing and fewer crowds than Main Beach.
About this place
Tallow Beach is the long, open beach on Byron's southern side, stretching from near The Pass / Cosy Corner toward Broken Head Nature Reserve. It is the extra sand if you already have Main Beach, Cape Byron and The Pass Cafe on the list: more space, more swell, fewer towels per square metre. Access from Tallow Beach Road / Broken Head Road carparks and walking tracks through the nature reserve. Unpatrolled except near Cosy Corner / The Pass end in season. Broken Head Nature Reserve at the southern end adds littoral rainforest and a quieter cove.
Access & getting there
Carparks off Tallow Beach Road and Broken Head Road. Walk from The Pass for the northern end. Nature reserve dogs prohibited.
Tallow Beach Road, Byron Bay NSW 2481
Safety notes
Strong surf and rips on an open beach. Swim only at patrolled ends if you are not a strong ocean swimmer.
