Stanwell Park Beach
Illawarra, NSW
A lagoon-backed Illawarra beach under Bald Hill — hang-gliders overhead and Sea Cliff Bridge just around the headland.
About this place
Stanwell Park Beach sits in a small valley between Bald Hill and Mount Mitchell, with twin creek lagoons behind the sand. This is where Lawrence Hargrave flew his box kites, and hang-gliders still drop in from the hill above. The surf is real ocean beach; the lagoons are the calmer family option when they are open and clean. Combine with Bald Hill lookout and a walk on Sea Cliff Bridge for a full Grand Pacific Drive day.
Access & getting there
Train to Stanwell Park station, then a short walk downhill. Parking near the beach is limited on weekends. SLSC on site.
Beach Rd, Stanwell Park NSW 2508
Safety notes
Swim between the flags. Lagoons can be closed after rain. Hang-gliders land on the beach — give them room.
