About this place
Short Point is the named cape and surf beach on the ocean side of Merimbula, reached via Short Point Road. OpenStreetMap maps the point at the eastern end of the beach, with holiday parks and cabins along the access road. It is a different proposition to the calm lake and Merimbula Boardwalk: open ocean, a rocky headland and a local surf beach used by visitors staying at the NRMA and cabin precincts. Pair a morning at Short Point with an afternoon on the lake boardwalk. Swim only when conditions are suitable and, if patrols are operating, between the flags. The headland is a short stroll for views back over Merimbula Bay.
Access & getting there
Drive Short Point Road from Merimbula. Parking along the holiday-park precinct and at the point. Check Beachsafe for patrol times and surf hazard.

Safety notes
Open-ocean surf with rips. Swim between the flags when patrolled. Rock platforms around the point are slippery in swell.
Gear notes
Swimmers, towel, sun protection. Wetsuit outside midsummer if surfing.
