Sea Cliff Bridge
Illawarra, NSW
A 456-metre cantilever over the Tasman Sea — the Grand Pacific Drive's most photographed stretch of road.
About this place
Opened in 2005 to replace a rockfall-prone section of Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Sea Cliff Bridge hangs off the Illawarra escarpment between Coalcliff and Clifton. You can drive it, but the point is to park and walk the pedestrian path — 455 metres of ocean on one side and cliff on the other, with whale watching in season. Pair it with Bald Hill lookout above Stanwell Park. Stay on the formed path; unofficial cliff scrambles here have been fatal.
Access & getting there
Train to Coalcliff station, then a steep 15-minute walk up to the bridge. Limited parking at either end. Buses along Lawrence Hargrave Drive.
Lawrence Hargrave Dr, Coalcliff NSW 2508
Safety notes
Stay on the bridge footpath. Do not climb surrounding cliffs or unofficial lookouts. Traffic is live — use the marked path.
