Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

Sydney Harbour, NSW

Australia's oldest botanic garden — 30 hectares of harbour-edge lawns, living collections and Farm Cove from 1816.

About this place

The Royal Botanic Garden wraps Farm Cove between the Opera House and Mrs Macquaries Point, free and open every day. This is the site of the colony's first farm and still a working scientific garden, not just a pretty lawn. Walk the seawall, duck into the Palm Grove and The Calyx, and use it as the green link between Circular Quay and the Domain. Combine with Mrs Macquaries Chair for the classic harbour circuit.

Access & getting there

Free entry. Open daily from 7am to sunset (hours vary by month). Train or ferry to Circular Quay, or walk from the CBD. Limited paid parking nearby.

Mrs Macquaries Rd, Sydney NSW 2000

Safety notes

Stay off garden beds. Harbour edge is unfenced in places.
