Point Lookout
New England, NSW
A 200 m wheelchair-friendly walk to one of NSW's most photographed escarpment sunrises, looking over World Heritage rainforest to the sea.
About this place
Point Lookout is the headline stop in New England National Park, perched on the Great Escarpment at around 1,560 m with views across Gondwana rainforest toward the Pacific. The lookout is only 200 m from the carpark on a wheelchair-friendly track, with a picnic shelter interpreting Gumbaynggirr Country and park history. Come for sunrise when valley mist turns pink, then linger for a barbecue. Longer rainforest walks start from the same precinct — check NPWS alerts, as some tracks (including Eagles Nest and Weeping Rock) can close for rockfall.
Access & getting there
From Waterfall Way near Ebor, take Point Lookout Road about 15 km (mostly unsealed, 2WD in the dry). Not suitable for large caravans in wet weather.
