Challenging 16 km return descent from Bells Line of Road to Blue Gum Forest via Fairy Grotto and the Grose River.
About this place
NPWS lists Pierces Pass to Blue Gum Forest as 16 km return, 6-8 hours, from Pierces Pass picnic area between the Mount Wilson and Mount Banks turnoffs on Bells Line of Road. The spur drops through Fairy Grotto rainforest (coachwood, sassafras, orchids), then open forest to a Grose River crossing and Blue Gum Forest. Boil river water at least 3 minutes. Overnight at Acacia Flat. Rigby Hill is the easy add-on from the same carpark.
Access & getting there
Turn onto Pierces Pass Road from Bells Line of Road, drive to the end. Lock the car; remote trailhead. No dogs.
