Nielsen Park
Eastern Suburbs, NSW
A harbour beach picnic in Vaucluse — Shark Beach, shady figs and a 1914 kiosk inside Sydney Harbour National Park.
About this place
Nielsen Park is the harbour picnic the Eastern Suburbs grew up on. Shark Beach is netted, the lawns sit under big figs, and the heritage kiosk has been feeding swimmers since 1914. It is part of Sydney Harbour National Park but feels like a local park — easy with kids, good for a post-walk feed if you have come along the Hermitage Foreshore track from Rose Bay. Swim inside the enclosure. Weekends get busy; weekdays feel like a secret.
Access & getting there
Buses from the city to Vaucluse. Limited parking on Greycliffe Avenue. Hermitage Foreshore walk links from Rose Bay.
Greycliffe Ave, Vaucluse NSW 2030
Safety notes
Swim inside the shark-net enclosure. Harbour water quality can drop after heavy rain — check Beachwatch.
