Newnes campground
Wollemi, NSW
Walk-in only Wolgan River campground among shale-oil ruins; about 10 km from Glen Davis while Wolgan Road stays collapsed.
About this place
NPWS still lists Newnes campground as open, but it is walk-in only. Wolgan Road has collapsed with landslip risk at Wolgan Gap. Campers walk roughly 10 km from Glen Davis via Pipeline track. Grassy flat sites sit by the Wolgan River under sandstone cliffs, near historic shale oil ruins. Book online (no camping fee, $6 booking fee). Carry all drinking water and take rubbish out. Glow Worm Tunnel is a separate drive-in walk from the plateau, not a drive from this camp.
Access & getting there
No vehicle access. About 10 km walk from Glen Davis via Pipeline track. Book via NPWS. Fully self-sufficient. Do not attempt Wolgan Road.
