Mutawintji Gorge walking track
Far West, NSW
A 6 km return Grade 5 gorge hike to a pool under soaring red cliffs in Mutawintji National Park.
About this place
NPWS lists Mutawintji Gorge walking track as 6 km return (2.5–3.5 hours) through one of the park’s most scenic gorges, ending at a peaceful pool surrounded by red cliffs. Follow the white markers. It is a moderately challenging outback day walk — carry all water and do not attempt it in extreme heat. Roads in the park close after rain; check the Broken Hill office before you leave.
Access & getting there
About 130 km north-east of Broken Hill on unsealed roads that close when wet. 2WD possible when dry; high-clearance preferred. No drinking water in the park. Historic Site rock-art precinct is guided-tour only; this gorge walk is a separate public track.
