Maitland Bay track
Central Coast, NSW
Short, steep 2 km return walk from Maitland Bay Information Centre down to Bouddi's secluded bay and the PS Maitland wreck at low tide.
About this place
NPWS lists Maitland Bay track as a 2 km return, 15-45 minute walk and one of Bouddi National Park's most popular bushwalks. It starts at Maitland Bay Information Centre on The Scenic Road and drops through Hawkesbury sandstone, gullies and Bouddi Grand Deep rainforest to the beach. At low tide the wreck of the paddle steamer PS Maitland (1898) shows at the eastern end of the bay. Allow 15-20 minutes down and 30-40 minutes back up; some walkers continue the flatter 3 km along the coast to Putty Beach instead of climbing out.
Access & getting there
Park at Maitland Bay Information Centre. Centre is typically weekends and public holidays 11am-3pm; the track is open independently. Park entry fees apply in the Putty Beach area only. No dogs.
