Maitland Bay
Central Coast, NSW
A secluded Bouddi National Park beach reached by a steep 2 km return walk, with the wreck of the PS Maitland at the eastern end.
About this place
Maitland Bay is the signature cove of Bouddi National Park: a protected sandy beach inside the marine extension, reached downhill from the Maitland Bay Information Centre on The Scenic Road. NPWS rates the Maitland Bay track Grade 3, 2 km return, 15–45 minutes — allow extra for the climb back. At low tide the remains of the paddle steamer PS Maitland, wrecked in 1898, sit at the eastern end of the bay. Swim, snorkel and picnic; there are no lifeguards. Combine with Gerrin Point lookout or continue along the Bouddi coastal walk to Putty Beach.
Access & getting there
Park at the Maitland Bay Information Centre (opposite Maitland Bay Drive). The beach is a steep walk down; some walkers continue 3 km along the coast to Putty Beach for a pickup. Park entry fees apply in the Putty Beach precinct only.
