Lyrebird Gully Circuit

Hornsby, NSW

Train-to-train Great North Walk day hike — 9km from Mount Ku-ring-gai to Berowra through Lyrebird Gully, Calna Creek and saltmarsh.

About this place

Lyrebird Gully circuit links Mount Ku-ring-gai and Berowra stations through Berowra Valley National Park, so you can skip the car. From Mount Ku-ring-gai head north into the gully, cross Calna and Berowra creeks, and listen for waterfalls on Lyrebird Creek after rain. A boardwalk crosses saltmarsh before zigzag stairs onto Berkeley trail and the streets of Berowra. Detour to Naa Badu lookout or continue north on the Great North Walk. NPWS grades it 5 — rough, steep and lightly signed.

Access & getting there

Train to Mount Ku-ring-gai or reverse from Berowra (west across the highway along Berowra Waters Road at Crowley Road). Street and station parking at both ends. No vehicle access on the track itself.

Mount Ku-ring-gai Station, Pacific Hwy, Mount Kuring-Gai NSW 2080 (start southwest across the highway off Glenview Rd)

Safety notes

Creek crossings, steep stairs, limited signage and patchy reception. Carry a map. No camping on this circuit.

Gear notes

Trekking poles help on the zigzags. 2 litres of water. Shoes with grip for wet rock.
