Illawong walk

Snowy Mountains, NSW

A 5 km return walk from Guthega Village along the Snowy River to historic Illawong Hut.

About this place

NPWS describes Illawong walk as a 5 km return bushwalk (2-3 hours) starting in Guthega Village and following the Snowy River valley through alpine heath and snow gums to Illawong Hut, one of the oldest buildings still standing in Kosciuszko National Park. The walk is inaccessible to walkers in winter (June to October long weekends). Swimming in the Snowy River is possible in hot weather. The Guthega Track Head vehicle drop-off and turning circle has been closed for toilet construction (walkers can still access Illawong walk; check current NPWS alerts). Park at Main Road, a short walk from the trackhead.

Access & getting there
