Great North Walk Lane Cove National Park
Upper North Shore, NSW
Thornleigh trailhead of the Great North Walk — 20km one-way through Lane Cove National Park from Short Street to the river at East Ryde.
About this place
This is the named Lane Cove National Park stage of the Great North Walk: 20km one-way, Grade 3, six to eight hours, clearly signposted. NPWS lists starts at Short Street, Thornleigh (Wood Street off The Comenarra Parkway) or Pittwater Road, East Ryde. The track threads Lane Cove River bushland, picnic areas and the weir, and is the urban-bush link between Sydney Harbour suburbs and Berowra Valley. Do it as a full day with a car shuffle or train/bus, or walk shorter weir-to-Thornleigh chunks. Park hours and $8 vehicle entry apply inside the national park.
Access & getting there
From Pennant Hills Road turn into The Comenarra Parkway, then Wood Street, left into Short Street to the end. Southern start: Pittwater Road, East Ryde, about 2km from Epping Road. Parking on Pittwater Road and Short Street; busy on weekends. Thornleigh station is nearby.
End of Short St, Thornleigh NSW 2120
Safety notes
Long day with many steps. Park gates lock in the evening. Carry water. Stay on the signed GNW — side trails confuse first-timers.
Gear notes
