Govetts Leap Lookout
Blue Mountains, NSW
Blackheath's Grose Valley amphitheatre with 180 m Bridal Veil Falls and sandstone walls in gold light.
About this place
NPWS calls Govetts Leap one of Australia's most famous lookouts: accessible paths to views of the Grose Wilderness and Bridal Veil Falls dropping 180 m over Taylor Wall. Visit NSW flags it as one of the best Blue Mountains sunrise spots; late light is equally dramatic on the cliff faces. Trailheads for Fairfax Heritage Track, Cliff Top Track and (when open) Govetts Leap descent start here. Blue Mountains Heritage Centre is nearby at 270 Govetts Leap Road. Govetts descent has been closed for rockfall; the lookout itself remains the destination.
Access & getting there
Drive Govetts Leap Road from Blackheath (train to Blackheath then a steep walk or taxi). Heritage Centre 9 am to 4 pm. Valley tracks from here may be closed; the lookout is the visit.
End of Govetts Leap Road, Blackheath NSW 2785
Safety notes
Stay behind fences. Do not enter closed valley tracks (rockfall). Wind and sudden weather on the escarpment.
Gear notes
Warm layer for dawn and dusk. Binoculars for king parrots and yellow-tailed black cockatoos.
