Garie Beach
Royal National Park, NSW
A long, wild surf beach in Royal National Park — Coast Track junction, winter whales and cabbage-tree rainforest behind the sand.
About this place
Garie is the southernmost patrolled beach in Greater Sydney and a proper surf beach, not a lagoon day out. The Coast Track drops in here; hikers use it as a lunch stop or overnight staging point. Surf Life Saving patrols weekends in summer, with weekday lifeguards in school holidays. Governor Game lookout sits above the beach if you want the aerial view before you commit to the sand. Unpatrolled outside those hours — treat the surf with respect.
Access & getting there
Park entry fee. Garie Beach carpark is day-use and locked overnight. Lifeguards 9am-5pm in summer (intermittent). No public transport.
Garie Rd, Royal National Park NSW 2232
Safety notes
Highly hazardous surf. Swim only when patrolled and between the flags. Carpark locked overnight. Check NPWS for beach-closure alerts.
Gear notes
Bring all water and food. Wetsuit if surfing outside midsummer.
