Galston Gorge Picnic Area
Hornsby, NSW
Tiny Great North Walk trailhead at the bottom of Galston Gorge — a creek-side pause between Hornsby and Crosslands.
About this place
Galston Gorge picnic area sits on Galston Road where the Great North Walk crosses the bottom of the gorge. It is one of the named trailheads NPWS lists for the Berowra Valley stage, and a logical turnaround for day walkers coming down from Hornsby or up from Crosslands. Parking is limited and the road is a famous one-lane sandstone cutting — not a place to linger in a large vehicle. Bring what you need; facilities are basic. The gorge itself is the attraction: cliffs, Tunks Creek and a sudden sense of being a long way from Hornsby shops.
Access & getting there
Galston Road between Hornsby Heights and Galston. Narrow, winding, one-lane sections with traffic lights. Limited parking at the picnic area. Not suitable for large vehicles or caravans. Join the Great North Walk in either direction.
Galston Rd, Galston Gorge NSW 2159
Safety notes
Narrow gorge road with poor sight lines. Flash flooding in the creek after rain. Steep tracks out of the gorge. Limited mobile coverage.
