Ellenborough Falls
North Coast, NSW
NSW's tallest single-drop waterfall at about 200 m — lookouts, a knoll vista and 641 steps to the misty base.
About this place
Ellenborough Falls on the Bulga Plateau near Elands is the tallest single-drop waterfall in New South Wales, a horsetail plunge of around 200 m into a rainforest gorge. Four ways to see it: two easy platforms near the carpark, a 10-minute walk to The Knoll for a head-on view, and a strenuous 641-step descent to a spray-misted rock pool at the base. Picnic, barbecue and a kiosk sit by the carpark. Access is via gravel roads from Comboyne or Wingham; allow extra time and do not underestimate the climb back up.
Access & getting there
Gravel access from Comboyne or via Wingham/Elands — allow 1.5 hours from Port Macquarie. 2WD in the dry. Free entry. Kiosk, picnic and toilets at the carpark.
Ellenborough Falls Rd, Elands NSW 2429
Safety notes
The stairway to the base is long and narrow — rest often on the climb out. Stay behind barriers at the lip. Steps can be slippery.
Gear notes
If going to the base: water, grippy shoes and a spare hour for the return climb.
