Davidson Whaling Station
South Coast, NSW
Australia's longest-running shore-based whaling station on Kiah Inlet, Twofold Bay, now a 27 ha historic site with boardwalk and try-works.
About this place
NPWS Davidson Whaling Station Historic Site covers 27 ha on the Kiah Inlet at Twofold Bay, near Beowa National Park south of Eden. It was the longest-operating shore-based whaling station in Australia and the last of its type to close. A gently sloping packed path and boardwalk lead to the historic house; the path to the try-works and beach has steps. NPWS notes step-free outdoor pathways between buildings and bench seats on the boardwalk; toilets are not accessible. Discovery tours run seasonally. Pair with Boyds Tower or Green Cape for the wider Twofold Bay whaling story, now a whale-watching coast.
