Cathedral of Ferns
Blue Mountains, NSW
Short rainforest fern walk opposite Cathedral Reserve on Mount Irvine Road, a Mount Wilson leftover classic.
About this place
Cathedral of Ferns is a temperate rainforest pocket on Mount Irvine Road, Mount Wilson, a roughly 10-minute walk from Cathedral Reserve picnic and camping ground into a natural amphitheatre of tree ferns. The Mount Wilson community walking notes describe a short loop from the picnic ground, including a massive messmate, spring wildflowers and occasional summer fireflies. Dogs are allowed in the village and Cathedral Reserve but not in the adjoining national park.
Access & getting there
Drive Bells Line of Road then Mount Wilson Road. Park at Cathedral Reserve and use the path so you are not walking the blind bend. Dogs OK at the reserve, not in the national park.
