About this place
NPWS lists Cascade trail as a 20 km return (10 km one-way) walking and cycling trail from Dead Horse Gap on Alpine Way, about 5.5 km past Thredbo, to Cascade Hut in the Pilot Wilderness Area. The hut was built in 1935. The route follows the Thredbo River then climbs to Bob's Ridge, with views over the Murray River valley into Victoria, before continuing to the hut. It is part of the Australian Alps Walking Track. Open to walkers and mountain bikes in summer; winter use is cross-country ski, snowshoe or fat bike (fat bikes permitted year-round). Walking is not recommended when the trail is snowbound. Overnight camping is allowed near the hut (toilet only). Give way to walkers if riding.
