Byron Bay Main Beach
Byron Bay, NSW
The town beach under Cape Byron — surf, a long foreshore walk and the starting line for lighthouse days.
About this place
Main Beach is Byron Bay's front yard, a patrolled surf beach between the town centre and the Cape Byron headland. Norfolk pines, the surf club and the oceanway toward The Pass make it the easy swim after the lighthouse walk or before a coffee on Jonson Street. The bay is part of Cape Byron Marine Park; Julian Rocks sits offshore for snorkellers and divers on calm days. It is busy year-round — swim between the flags and expect limited parking in the town streets.
Access & getting there
Town parking is scarce; walk, bus or cycle if you can. Patrolled by Byron Bay Surf Club in season.

Safety notes
Swim between the flags. Rips occur. Watch for boats and board riders near the Pass end.
Gear notes
Reef-safe sunscreen and a rashie. The oceanway is best on a bike or on foot.
