Burragula lookout

Sydney Harbour National Park, NSW

North Head's harbour lookout — South Head, Hornby Lighthouse and the Sydney skyline from the southern point of the peninsula.

About this place

Burragula lookout is the southern lookout on Fairfax walk, built to replace older Fairfax platforms closed because of unstable cliff sandstone. It faces South Head across the Heads, with Hornby Lighthouse and the city skyline in the same frame. Yiningma lookout is about 80 metres north-east on the ocean cliff toward Blue Fish Point. Both are on the 1km paved Fairfax loop at the end of North Head Scenic Drive. This is the leftover Sydney Harbour National Park experience at North Head — not Manly Scenic Walkway, not Shelly Beach. Come at the open-ocean edge of the harbour for whales in winter and a postcard view any clear day.

Access & getting there

Same access as Fairfax walk. $5 vehicle fee. Ferry to Manly then bus or walk. Gates 6am–8pm daylight saving, 6am–6pm otherwise. Wheelchair-accessible paved path. No dogs.

Fairfax walk, North Head Scenic Drive, Manly NSW 2095

Safety notes

Cliff lookout. Stay behind barriers. Unstable sandstone beyond the fence is why the old lookouts closed.

Gear notes

Binoculars for whales and ships. Wind layer at the Heads.
