Breadknife and Grand High Tops walk
Warrumbungles, NSW
The jewel of the Warrumbungles — a challenging loop past the Breadknife spire and volcanic Grand High Tops.
About this place
NPWS rates this 14.5 km Grade 4 loop as one of the best walks in New South Wales, starting at Pincham carpark and climbing to close encounters with Belougery Spire, Bress Peak, Crater Bluff and the 90-metre Breadknife. The track follows Spirey Creek before a steep ascent to Grand High Tops, then continues toward Western High Tops and returns via West Spirey; a shorter 12.5 km option uses the Dagda Shortcut. Spring wildflowers and wedge-tailed eagles are part of the show, and a free PLB can be hired at the visitor centre.
Access & getting there
From Coonabarabran follow John Renshaw Parkway into the park, then turn left onto Pincham Road about 100 m past the visitor centre turnoff. Park entry $8 per vehicle per day. Book walk-in camps along the track in advance.
