Barrenjoey Lighthouse
Northern Beaches, NSW
Sydney's northernmost lookout — an 1881 sandstone lighthouse above Broken Bay, Pittwater and the Central Coast.
About this place
Barrenjoey Lighthouse sits 91m up on Barrenjoey Head at the tip of Palm Beach, looking over Broken Bay, Lion Island and Ku-ring-gai Chase. There is no vehicle access; walk about 1km from Governor Phillip carpark via the gentler Barrenjoey track or the steeper Smugglers Track. Sunday guided tours let you climb the tower when they are running. Bring binoculars in whale season (May to September). This is the headland and lighthouse, not Palm Beach itself.
Access & getting there
Paid parking at Governor Phillip Park. No toilets or water at the lighthouse — use the carpark. Allow 30-40 minutes each way. Moderate fitness; steep sandstone sections.
Governor Phillip carpark, Barrenjoey Rd, Palm Beach NSW 2108
Safety notes
Steep, exposed track. Avoid in extreme heat. Cliff edges at the headland. No shade on the upper track.
Gear notes
Hat, water and shoes with grip. Binoculars in whale season.
