Bald Hill Lookout
Illawarra, NSW
The Illawarra's hang-gliding balcony — Sea Cliff Bridge, Stanwell Park beach and Royal National Park cliffs in one sweep.
About this place
Bald Hill is the lookout you stop at on the drive south from Royal National Park, 180m above Stanwell Park. Hang-gliders and paragliders launch here, and the view runs from the park's white cliffs north to Sea Cliff Bridge and Wollongong south. Lawrence Hargrave experimented with box kites on the beach below; a memorial cairn marks the hill. Flying High Cafe sits in the carpark. Sunset here is as good as it gets on this coast.
Access & getting there
Drive via Lawrence Hargrave Drive from Otford, Stanwell Park or Stanwell Tops. Coach parking available. A walking track also climbs from Chellow Dene Avenue in Stanwell Park.
