About this event

UPDATE 15TH APRIL Please read the following information before confirming your attendance for this event: WHAT TO EXPECT: – There are risks involved in this event including frost-bite and hypothermia which can happen easily in this environment – It’s important everyone is fit and that we all walk at the same pace, otherwise those waiting will get cold (ideally everyone will do at least one training walk before the event with either of the groups) – The hike is on a Grade 5 track so is rated as difficult. Climbs at the beginning of the first day will be steep and it may be very challenging. In particular walking in snow shoes requires a different walking technique (wide walking stance) which some may struggle with – You need to be prepared to work through some inevitable discomfort and of course there will be positive trade-offs. Once we are arrive at the start of the walk no-one will be able to turn back and we will all need to walk (and work) together as a team to stay safe and have a good time – There are also risks of extreme exposure to cold. There will be frozen bodies of water in the area including streams and rivers, and if someone mistakenly falls (you won’t know it’s there until you’ve fallen in) they will very quickly suffer hypothermia. In the event this happens receiving help and/or extraction is likely to be severely delayed so you need to be aware of the risks – Certain items can freeze so it’s best to keep them close to your body, both during the day and also when you sleep – this is mainly electronics and water THE ROUTE: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/multiday-hike-in-the-snow-6547884?p=-1 ITINERARY: You can find a link to the current proposed Itinerary here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NkrzRLH4PMw9oydDrPZBfM1v2s-kKPbcdafCKogQs7c/edit#gid=468264791 MANDATORY GEAR: We have put together a list of mandatory gear, including specs, that everyone will need to have to be able to participate in the event.
