Check online for public transport departure info, change of platform, weekend trackwork etc. (there is trackwork on this weekend for this line). https://transportnsw.info/ To get to Otford station by 10:45pm on Friday, you will need to take the 9:23pm train from Central Station (platform 4) – this stops through redfern, wolli creek, hurstville, sutherland etc (check timing from each stattion) and get off at Helensburgh, and then take the 10:25pm train from helensburgh arriving Otford at 10:33pm. All transport is Opal Card, except the first ferry from Bundeena on Saturday at 9am back to Cronulla which is $7.20. Please bring cash change to purchase your ticket on board the Ferry from Bundeena back to Cronulla. (Although last time I did this, it looks like they accept card on board the ferry now). You can have breakfast at bundeena before boarding ferry as I think we will finish earlier than 9am. Wear comfortable outfit and sturdy walking shoes. Bring at least 3L of water, food, snacks, hand sanitizer and small towel. Important: Headtorch is ideal, at a minimum bring a torch. This is Sydney’s premier coastal walk, taking us through the world’s second oldest national park, the magnificent Royal National Park, Sydney. Let’s walk it overnight because it’s quiet and looks amazing under the stars. We might catch some rain so bring a rainjacket. Our starting point is the village of Otford, at the southern end of the RNP. From Otford Station we have a steep climb out of Otford Valley, to the RNP entrance, at Otford Lookout. Our first stop will be about 2.5 hours in, for a 15 minute break at Garie Beach. From there we push on to Wattamolla Beach, another 2.5 hours walk, where we will have another snack and break for about 20 minutes. From Wattamolla, it’s another solid 2.5 hours walk to Bundeena where we can catch the Ferry across Port Hacking to Cronulla Railway Station. More details here: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/walking-tracks/the-coast-track Difficulty: Hard, because of the distance. We will be winding through forest, up and down headlands and crossing long beaches. A good level of fitness is required. There is mainly 2 large hills to climb and lots of sand walking. Capping at 15 people. There are NO get out points for this walk. If you attend you must finish the entire walk. Walking Pace: We will maintain a steady pace all night and average 4 km per hour. Please don’t attend if you are feeling unwell or just recently recovering from any illness.
