Mt K’ng-Gai – Spit Bridge|Oxfam section 3-8|65km, 20+ in dark
About this event
This is part of Oxfam sections 3-8. This is generally considered the easier part, with most of the climbing completed in the first 3 sections, although we will start slightly before section 3 for easy access. The purpose of this event is to get used to walking longer distances and, in particular, sections in the dark that we would expect to be walking at night on the actual event. It’s also a beautiful and interesting walk, so should be fun! Disclaimer: Although I have walked some sections of this walk before, most of it will be exploratory, however much of it is semi-suburban, so expect shouldn’t be too difficult! Note the Gibberagong boardwalk is closed until July (where Oxfam normally goes through), so we will have to use Warrimoo Track to St Ives as Gibberagong Track is not accessible from Bobbinhead. Preparations: Bring at least a couple litres of water, wear sensible walking shoes, a hat & sun screen. Will need head lamps as will be dark for last 20-25km. There are multiple points to get water refills which we can find together along the way. Distance: 65km Elevation: 1,200m (estimate) Pace: 4 – 4.5km p/h Terrain: Hilly Early exits: Quite a few early exits Getting there: 5.56am train from Central, platform 16 (Goes to Berowra)
