Mount Piddington & Grand Canyon via Rail Walkway (30km)
About this event
This walk is about half local roads and half mountainous terrain. We start with a stunning walk up to Mount Piddington from where we can head out across various tracks to explore the local area. There are plenty of caves and stunning views over the mountains. Also expect to see a range of wildlife including lyre birds, owls and yellow tailed black cockatoos. From there we will head to Blackheath via the walkway by the railway line (which is actually very quiet). We can soak up some good vibes as we pass the Vipassana Meditation Centre and we can stop in Blackheath at the service station for anyone that needs water or supplies. We will then walk to Evan’s Lookout and do the beautiful Grand Canyon walk which is incredibly cool on a hot summer day and filled with beautiful rainforest, canyons and waterfalls. We will meet at Mt Victoria Station and finish at Blackheath Station. Distance: 28km Elevation: 1,200m Pace: 4km p/h (a bit slower in mountains and brisk pace on roads) Terrain: Steep sections, mountainous terrain Early exits: 7km, 13km Preparations: Bring plenty of water (3L+), wear sensible walking shoes, a hat and sun screen.
