About this event

This is part of the 100km Oxfam Trailwalker Sections 1 + 2 and is the hardest 2 sections. Come checkout the route I probably walked over 30 times last year as I was training for the Oxfam. From the riverside village of Brooklyn we join Section 1 of the Oxfam Trail, a difficult but spectacular 15.4 km walk, with tough climbing, through the magnificent Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park. We take a short break, about 6 km in to view the wonderful Hawkesbury River Complex. From there it is steady progress to the end of Section 1, where we have a break for lunch at Cowan. There is a get-out point here at Cowan railway station. After lunch, we commence Section 2 of the Oxfam Trail, which is 11.7 km of yet more difficult but no less spectacular walking through Berowra Reserve and some epic climbs! We take a break at Berowra Waters, before tackling the ascent to Berowra Waters Lookout, and making our way along tracks and fire trails to the township of Berowra. We’ll aim to complete the day’s walking by no later than 4:30 pm. This is a full day of tough walking (I would not recommend for beginners), but extremely rewarding with beautiful views throughout. Walking Pace: We will maintain a steady pace all day and must average about 3.5 km per hour to finish on time. If you are taking public transport, there is a 6:48am train from Central platform 9(please check this on the morning as it may change platform sometimes!) direct to Hawkesbury River station. I will be hoping on this train from Berowra station at 7:35am (if you are driving, I suggest to park here like I will – there are lots of commuter parking space and you finish here). Check online for public transport departure info, change of platform, weekend trackwork etc. (if there is trackwork scheduled that weekend (i will know the week before and update here) If it rains I will probably change the event to another hike, section 2 is a bit trickier to complete in wet weather.
